Quase 18 anos nos separam deste EP, e em 18 anos muito mudou nos Attick Demons, desde alterações de line-up, a um inequívoco crescimento e amadurecimento musical. Mas passados estes 18 anos, há algo que se mantém inalterável: a sua essência, o prazer de fazer música, a paixão de estar num palco, de dar a música que fazem com um enorme respeito pelos fãs e por todos os que os apoiam.

Tenho um enorme carinho por este álbum e é um privilégio enorme tê-lo na minha colecção/memorabilia dos Attick Demons. É um dos meus tesouros, que guardo com toda a admiração que tenho pela banda, que o financiou, produziu e editou. E é devido a esta persistência, a este espírito de luta tão motivador, que sou uma fã mega orgulhosa de todo o seu percurso (e por todos os outros motivos e mais alguns).

Neste EP, Artur Almeida procurou, deliberadamente, alterar a sua voz, de forma a distanciar-se das inúmeras e constantes comparações com Bruce Dickinson, e os Iron Maiden, procurando uma identidade própria. O resultado não foi o melhor, sendo até definido pelo próprio Artur, em algumas entrevistas, como "uma cagada"... hahahahaha... Quem me conhece sabe o quanto me desagradam estas comparações do Artur ao Bruce e dos Attick Demons aos Iron Maiden. E eu adoro Iron Maiden e até são comparações elogiosas! Mas os Attick Demons têm uma identidade própria e devem ser reconhecidos por isso, pelo seu mérito, pela sua excelência, sem serem necessárias comparações. Os Attick Demons são uma identidade, não um eco ou um espelho reflector. Pelo que, se aqui faço referência a estas comparações deve-se ao facto de elas estarem directamente relacionadas com o EP e o seu resultado final.

Mas, voltando ao EP...

Os Attick Demons de 2000 eram Artur Almeida (voz), António Durães (baixo), Luís Figueira (guitarra eléctrica e acústica), Gonçalo Pais (bateria) e Nuno Martins (guitarra)

A voz do Artur, que como se veio a confirmar nos trabalhos posteriores, não é uma voz qualquer, é um vozeirão natural, sem esforço e de um timbre fantástico, soa neste EP muito menos encorpada, quase que sufocando os seus agudos tão naturais. Mas a tentativa de estrangular a sua potência vocal não foi de todo conseguida, e percebemos, ao ouvir este trabalho que temos ali uma voz com muita capacidade, versatilidade e personalidade.

"Attick Demons" é um álbum que nos traz uma banda com muito potencial, mas que ainda não estava a dar tudo. Sentimos vontade de puxar por eles enquanto ouvimos o CD, de os incentivar a libertarem-se e darem tudo o que ali está contido. Neste EP, a banda experimenta várias sonoridades, apesar de já lá estar aquela que os definirá e consagrará como banda de referência no Heavy Metal clássico.

"The Believer" tem uma entrada épica, que nos remete para mundos mágicos, seres fantásticos, deusas e oráculos, temas muito bem explorados pela banda no seu primeiro LP, "Atlantis" ou em temas como "Glory To Gawain" ou "Dark Angel" de "Let's Raise Hell" (o segundo LP).

O tema "Attick Demons", biográfico, resume todo o álbum e define a banda naquele momento: Five Attick Demons que adoram fazer música, que procuram o seu estilo e lutam por um lugar no mundo da música, lugar esse que conquistarão mais tarde, com todo o mérito! É um tema vivo, com ritmo, que nos faz abanar a cabeça e cantar bem alto. Afinal, os hinos são para cantar bem alto e com emoção, e este tema é um hino, o hino dos "Demónios do Sótão"!

Algo de que sinto falta ao longo de todo o álbum é de um baixo sonoro e agressivo.

Tal como disse no inicio deste texto, este EP é um dos meus tesouros. Porquê? Porque ouvi-lo, assim como ouvir a Promo Tape '97 (que muito orgulhosamente tenho, oferta do Cameraman Metálico), é ouvir o nascimento daquela que é hoje uma banda de referência, com músicos excepcionais, que estão muito acima da média existente. É perceber que um longo e árduo caminho foi percorrido, mas que quando há verdadeira paixão pela música e pelos palcos não há obstáculos para o sucesso e para a excelência!

Em 2017, foi lançado o álbum ao vivo "Back To The Attick... Live", o único trabalho editado até então com Ricardo Oliveira na bateria e composto pelos seis temas do EP "Attick Demons", tocados ao vivo em Lisboa no RCA Rock Club, a 18 de Fevereiro de 2017. Fiéis aos temas originais, os Attick Demons trazem com este trabalho, uma nova e actual sonoridade dos temas de 2000, libertando agora todo o potencial destes seis fantásticos temas.

Nota final: não sou crítica de música nem tenho conhecimentos musicais. Este texto não é uma review profissional, está bem longe de o ser. É apenas a minha apreciação pessoal (muito pessoal) do primeiro álbum dos Attick Demons, uma banda que adoro e apoio incondicionalmente.

The namesake EP of the Attick Demons dates back to December 2000 and has 6 tracks:

Almost 18 years separate us from this EP, and in 18 years much has changed in the Attick Demons, from line-up changes, to an unmistakable growth and musical maturation. But after these 18 years, there is something that remains unchanged: its essence, the pleasure of making music, the passion of being on a stage, of giving the music they do with a huge respect for the fans and for all those who support them.

I have a great affection for this album and it is a huge privilege to have it in my Attick Demons collection / memorabilia. It is one of my treasures, which I hold with all the admiration I have for the band, which financed, produced and edited it. And it is because of this persistence, in this spirit of struggle so motivating, that I am a proud mega fan of their entire journey (and for all other reasons and a few more).

In this EP, Artur Almeida deliberately sought to alter his voice, in order to distance himself from countless comparisons with Bruce Dickinson and the Iron Maiden, seeking an identity of their own. The result was not the best, even being defined by Artur in some interviews as "a shit" ... hahahahaha ... Who knows me, knows how much I dislike these comparisons of Artur to Bruce and the Attick Demons to Iron Maiden. And I love Iron Maiden and it's even complimentary comparisons! But the Attick Demons have their own identity and must be recognized for their merit, for their excellence, without comparisons. The Attick Demons are an identity, not an echo or a reflecting mirror. Therefore, if I refer to these comparisons here, it is because they are directly related to the PE and its final result.

But returning to EP ...

The 2000 Attick Demons were Artur Almeida (voice), António Durães (bass), Luís Figueira (electric and acoustic guitar), Gonçalo Pais (drums) and Nuno Martins (guitar)

Arthur's voice, - as confirmed in the later works, is not only a simple voice at all, it's a natural, effortless and fantastic great voice - sounds in this EP much less full-bodied, almost suffocating its natural tones. But the attempt to strangle his vocal power was not at all achieved, and we realized, hearing this work that we have a voice there with great capacity, versatility and personality.

"Attick Demons" is an album that brings us a band with a lot of potential, but that was not yet giving everything. We feel like pulling on them while we listen to the CD, to encourage them to break free and to give all that is contained there. In this EP, the band experiences several sonorities, although already there is the one that will define them and consecrate as reference band in classic Heavy Metal.

"The Believer" has an epic entry, which takes us to magical worlds, fantastic beings, goddesses and oracles, themes very well explored by the band in their first LP, "Atlantis" or themes such as "Glory To Gawain" or "Dark Angel "from" Let's Raise Hell "(the second LP).

The song "Attick Demons", biographical, summarizes the whole album and defines the band at that time: Five Attick Demons who love making music, who seek their style and fight for a place in the world of music, which they will conquer later, with all merit! It is a lively, rhythmic theme that makes us shake our heads and sing loudly. After all, the hymns are to sing loudly and with emotion, and this theme is a hymn, the anthem of the "Attic Demons"!

Something I miss throughout the album is a loud and aggressive bass.

As I said at the beginning of this text, this EP is one of my treasures. Why? Because listening to it, as well as listening to Promo Tape '97 (which I proudly have, Cameraman Metallic's offer), is to hear the birth of what is now a band of reference, with exceptional musicians, who are well above the existing average. It is to realize that a long and arduous path has been traveled, but that when there is a true passion for music and the stages, there are no obstacles to success and excellence!

In 2017, the live album "Back To The Attick ... Live" was released, the only work ever edited with Ricardo Oliveira on drums and composed of six tracks from the EP "Attick Demons", played live in Lisbon on RCA Rock Club on February 18, 2017. Faithful to the original themes, the Attick Demons brings with this work a new and current sound of the themes of 2000, releasing now the full potential of these six fantastic themes.

Final note: I'm not a musical critic or have any musical skills. This text is not a professional review, it is far from being. It's just my personal (very personal) appreciation of Attick Demons' first album, a band that I love and support unconditionally.
